these shoes are made for…

When it comes to contrasts there’s always a nice picture in it. Imagine the shop owner selling expensive, stylish lady shoes. He exhibits a number of them on the pavement as there’s not enough space in his shop. I wonder if he noticed the contrast when he placed this rack against the wall.
Do you think such a presentation affects sales figures?

odd fellow

Standing as frozen and watching the statue for minutes. I saw this odd fellow and I was wondering what he was thinking about. He was staring, imperturbable, physically absent. Possibly he had some memories, triggered by the holy ornament, of long forgotten experiences. His expression didn’t give a clue whether he was scared, impressed or just enjoying. But what he caused, at least for me watching him watching, was the time being paused. Thank you, odd fellow.

body and soul

An old house. The inhabitants have left it a long time ago. Those people were quite wealthy according to the privileged location on the island and the georgeous view at the sea. Probably they owned a big plantation. Did they hold slaves? Wouldn’t surprise me, here in the Carib. Walking through and round the house gives me a feeling of the forgotten atmosphere. Beautiful ornaments, colored walls, decorated floors. When I close my eyes I can still hear the people arriving to, leaving from and working in this house, which is 7 days a week full of activity. The soul of ancient times remains to take care of the property. But in the end, when I leave the place and continu the day trip with my rental car, I know this house is just a dead body.

good times, bad times

This is kind of how I felt this week. The upside: time continues and troubles leave behind.

Red

Think of all the people with red hair you know. At first, you might say that there’s only one or two. But after a while you realize that you have a bunch of them in the neighborhood, in your family and among your friends. I decided to portrait 6 of them, in their own environment. This dual-portait is my favorite.

Bodyworlds

It is education, sensation, art. Bodyworlds is an exhibition of ‘plastinated’, real dead people. Gunther von Hagens calls himself a pioneering inventor that halts decomposition of the body. In the exhibition he shows human bodies (or parts of them) in different positions around a number of themes like muscles, nervous system, respiration, digestion et cetera. This photograph show the innervation of the human body as seen from the feet.

I like this one. The deceased guy used to play saxophone, obviously. After all I think Gunther succeeded in the sensational part of the exhibition in the first place.
We had a great time, had a nice lunch afterwards, then watched the ships in Rotterdam and went home.

a refresh

No much to see here. It’s the art of less-is-more. Photographers say the image has ‘functional emptiness’. Is it functional in this picture? That’s up to you, but I am not sure. What I am sure about, is that this picture is the perfect first one to put on this new blog website. This website is simple and kept as empty as possible. My new website.
